Ryan Scores Game Winner on Birthday

Boys Hockey

The Pine City Dragons remained undefeated in the Two Rivers Conference play this season with a 4-1 win at the Mora Civic Center last night. Pine City opened up the scoring early getting first period goals from TJ Roth (6th of season) and Tommy Ryan (1st of season). It was Tommy Ryan's 17th Birthday! Happy Birthday to Tommy! Right before the first period came to a close Pine City would have to fight off a five-minute major penalty. Mora capitalized on the man advantage and Logan Parker-Sjoberg found the back of the net for the Mustangs. The end of the first period came to a close with Pine City leading 2-1. The second period was very sluggish for both teams. The Dragons' head coach, Grant Nicoll, said it was the worst period of hockey he has seen this season. Thanks to sophomore goalie Alex Laven the Dragons would hold on to a 2-1 lead going into the third period. The third period was all Dragons and all Jonah Bergstrom. The senior scored two goals (5th of the season) to put the game away for Pine City. Bergstrom is now just 25 points away from breaking the school's all-time scoring record. The Dragons have gotten the better of the Mustangs now three times in a row. Pine City is now 4-3 on the season and head on the road to take on Chisago Lakes on Thursday.
