Boys Hockey
The Pine City Area Boys Hockey team was granted the honor of playing in the 2017 Schwan's Cup at the Super Rink in Blaine. Sixty-Four boys hockey teams from all over the state meet each year to play for six straight days after Christmas. The Dragons opened up the tournament with a very tough opponent, the Simley Spartans. Simley came into the tournament with a record of 6-2-1 and ranked 11th in the QRF State rankings according to Minnesota-Scores.net. Pine City went down early heading into the first intermission trailing 3-0. The Dragons fought back strong in the second getting back two goals of their own and headed into the third period trailing 4-2. Simley would take control in the third period adding two more goals giving them the victory 6-3. Jonah Bergstrom, Dusty Bergstrom, and Ethan White scored for the Dragons. Alex Laven made 34 saves on 40 shots. Pine City will now face Cambridge-Isanti in the second round at 12:30.
