Boys Hockey
No matter what the records or the previous matchups say, you can always expect a great hockey game when the Mustangs and Dragons meet on the ice. The Mustangs come in to tonight's game with a 9-8 record and want nothing more than to keep the Dragons from celebrating a third straight conference championship. Whether it is tonight, or not, Pine City will more than likely be hanging that conference banner needing just one more win to lock it up. I'm sure the Dragons would love to clinch it against their rivals from Mora.
Pine City got the better of Mora the last time these teams faced off 4-1 on December 12th. It proved to be your typical Dragon hockey game going into the 3rd period up just 2-1 and then outscoring the Mustangs 2-0 in the third period. Pine City is first in state in third period goals and is outscoring opponents 35-9 in the third period. That has everything to do with the Dragons third line.
The depth is what gives the Dragons the advantage in many of their games and it will be their advantage in tonight's game. The Mustangs are led by Gavin Orr. Orr has 21 goals and 20 assists and second place on the Mustangs is not even close. This could be a big section game for the Mustangs too. A win against Pine City would go a long way towards Mora/Milaca's seeding when the votes come in on February 17th.
Pine City is on an eight game winning streak and looking to lock up the Two Rivers Conference. The Dragons have won three straight against the Mustangs. Mora/Milaca is looking to play spoiler. Puck drop is at 7:00 at the Pine City Civic Center and the game can be heard on 106.5 FM/AM 1350 WCMP.
