Bluejacket Gymnastics Look to Repeat as Section Champs

Cambridge-Isanti Gymnastics Preview with Wendy Rooney:

What are you most excited for this year?

We have a really fun team and they are great at supporting each other. They push each other in practice to work hard and to go for new skills. It will be fun to see how that great support translates into strong performances in meets.

How is the roster shaping up? Do you have a lot of new players? Are you returning a lot of players? Younger? Older? Etc.

We have a strong core of returning gymnasts, and will have some girls that will see considerable varsity competition for the first time. We have 2 seniors, 5 juniors, 7 sophomores, 2 eighth graders, and 1 seventh grader.

Who are a couple athletes that will stand out?

Our seniors, Char Morke and MollyAnn Harvey, have been the leaders of our team for several years and will continue to do so this year. Also look for strong performances from AnnaGrace Nelson (11th), Riley Henrikson (11th), Laci Lorinser (8th) and Alison Barber (8th).

Any upcoming milestones for your team?

We currently hold the AA record for most state appearances at 28. We hope to continue adding to that record.

What are your goals?

We want to defend our Mississippi 8 Conference Titles (both JV and Varsity) and repeat as Section 7AA Champions.

Favorite upcoming games, matches, or meets?

We start our year up in Perham, which is a fun trip for the girls to do some team bonding. The invitationals are always fun, and the girls tend to have strong performances for our last home meet of the year, which is senior night.

Anything Else?

This is a group of hard-working athletes that would love to see their community support them by coming and cheering them on at their meets. You can find our meet schedule by going to www.mississippi8.org.
