Dragon Girls Defeat Perham in Brand New Facility

The Pine City Girl's Basketball team traveled to Perham on Saturday to compete in the "Breakdown Crossover Classic" in Perham's brand new athletic facility. The Dragons spoiled Perham's celebrations with a 72-56 win over the Yellowjackets. This comes after a tough loss to a very good Foley team earlier in the week.

From Head Coach Ted Hasz:

Foley 64

Pine City 51 The Dragons traveled to Foley to take on the undefeated Falcons and came up short. "We couldn't consistently get stops on defense for one reason or another and that lead to us rushing on offense where we did not shoot the ball as well as we are capable. Foley plays very well together and has a very solid team." The Dragons jumped out to a 9-3 lead and were down 2 points at half time. The Falcons went on a 9-0 run to start the second half and that proved to be too much to overcome. Ellie Hasz had a very strong game, scoring 24 points and grabbing 12 rebounds. Lily Wilson had 9 points, 5 assists and 4 steals. Alaina Steele had 6 points, 4 steals and 2 assists. Ashley Faur had 4 points, 5 rebounds and 2 assists. Emily Carpenter and Sophie Lahti each had 3 points and 4 rebounds. Hannah Lorsung had 2 points. It is a game that we can learn a lot from and be much better because of it. Pine City 72 Perham 56 The Dragons were invited to one of the top events in the state as they participated in the Breakdown Crossover Classic in the new state of the art facility in Perham. "It was an amazing experience. Perham is a community that really invests in and supports their school and activities. The whole town is all about the Yellow Jackets. The Dragons showed that they too have a lot of pride and high expectations with a very quality performance on the court. Perham tried to take away some of our strengths. Our kids did a great job adjusting. We had kids really step up. Ashley Faur showed what she is capable of as she hit 5 threes and played solid defense in route to 17 points. Meredith Kolling and Sophie Lahti both logged big minutes off the bench and were more than solid. Jolie Wicktor hit a big three in the first half that gave us momentum. Hannah Lorsung and Chloe Alleman both may have played their best defense of the season. Lily Wilson and Ellie Hasz did a great job of staying poised and waiting for their opportunities as Perham was paying them a lot of attention. Faur and Hasz each had 17 points. Wilson had 15. Lahti had 7 points. Losung scored 6 and Alleman 5. Wicktor had 3 and Kolling 2. This group is so unselfish. They are team before self at all times. We improved a lot this week. It was exactly the week we needed at this point in the season. We are going to have a very exciting 2nd half of the season!
