Dragon Girls Earn Two More Wins

The Pine City Girl's Basketball team won both of their games last week beating section opponent Pierz on Tuesday before beating Ogilive easily on Thursday. The Dragons are now 13-3 on the season.

From Head Coach Ted Hasz:

Pine City 63

Pierz 56

The Pioneers jumped out to a 16-2 lead only to have the Dragons fight back to take a 28-26 half time lead. "For whatever reason, we came out flat." "Give Pierz credit as they were ready to play but we didn't play defense with great intensity the first 8 minutes and we could not get any shots to drop." The kids showed some great determination to get themselves right back in the game and in position to win by half time. The second half remained a battle but the Dragons found a way to secure the victory. Chloe Alleman had great energy all game and really picked us up with 8 rebounds and great hustle to go with 2 points. Ellie Hasz had 21 points and 5 rebounds, including 10 for 11 from the line. Lily Wilson had 12 points, 7 assists and 4 steals. Ashley Faur had 12 points and 3 rebounds. Sophie Lahti had 9 points, 3 rebounds and 4 steals. Jolie Wicktor had 2 big 3 pointers at key times for her 6 points. Hannah Lorsung had a nice game with 4 rebounds and 4 assists. Emily Carpenter and Meredith Kolling each had 2 rebounds. When Things aren't clicking and a team still can find a way to win, it is a sign of a good team. Pine City 82 Ogilvie 33

Ogilvie came into the game with an 8-5 record and a 4-2 record in the conference but the Dragons defense and great team play was the difference in this one. The Dragons forced 23 turnovers and had 27 assists in the game. "The 27 assists show that we are starting to play some pretty good team basketball." "The kids played very hard nosed, physical defense all night as well." The kids were ready to play and really dominated all phases of the game. The Dragons had 3 in double figures and 10 players scored in the game. Lily Wilson had a double double with 10 points and 10 assists to go along with 3 steals. Ellie Hasz had 24 points including 6 threes to go along with 3 rebounds and 4 steals. Meredith Kolling had an impressive effort with 11 points and 8 rebounds. Hannah Lorsung had 9 points and 3 rebounds. Sophie Lahti had 9 points and 3 assists. Ashley Faur had 6 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals. Chloe Alleman had 4 points and 8 rebounds.
