The Pine City girls basketball team defeated Section 6AA opponent Milaca this week 84-63 to improve to 18-5 on the season. The Dragons are currently sitting at sixth in the section with just three games left before the playoffs start on February 28th.

The Dragons picked up a big section win against the rival Wolves with a dominating second half after a very competitive first half. The first half of the first half belonged to the Milaca. The Wolves built a 21-12 lead. From here the Dragons took charge with a 10-0 run which forced a Milaca timeout. Pine City went into the locker room with a 39-34 lead at the half.
The second half was all Dragons as they continued to build the lead. One thing that the Dragons have been working on is rebounding. Both Hannah Lorsung and Meredith Kolling did a great job in securing 8 rebounds a piece. Chloe Alleman, Ashley Faur and Ellie Hasz all had 4 rebounds. Lily Wilson and Alaina Steele led the team with 8 and 4 assists respectively. Wilson and Ashley Faur had 4 and 2 steals respectively. The Dragons had very good scoring balance with four in double figures. Hasz had 19, Faur had 14, While Steele and Wilson had 12 a piece. Jolie Wicktor had a nice game with a put back basket and 2 threes for her 8 points. Sophie Lahti continues to be a key contributor, playing good defense and picking up 7 points. Kolling, Lorsung and Alleman were also in the scoring column with 6, 4 and 2 points respectively.
The Dragons will finish out the regular season with 3 games. They will be at Moose Lake/Willow River on Tuesday. They will host Ogilvie on Thursday for senior night and will be at Braham on Friday night.
