Mustangs Enter "New Era" of Baseball

The Mora Mustangs are going to look a little bit different heading into the 2019 season. Mora is coming off a successful 15-10 2018 campaign that saw themselves coming up just short of the State Tournament.

This year's team is going to have some faces that Mustang fans won't be as familiar with after the team graduated seven seniors last year, all of whom where three year starters.

Head coach Jay Pautzke said, "We have some very talented players ready to move in and are hungry - the players coming up have played a lot of baseball - just lack varsity experience - I see the first half of the season as a learning/growth period - trying to find out what line ups work best - who fits in best in what positions - who will step on our pitching staff. I then believe the 2nd half of the season you'll see us start playing more consistently and by the end we could be a very good team."

The Mustangs have a lot of tough competition playing in a Granite Ridge Conference that hosts the likes of Albany, Foley, and St. Cloud Cathedral. And the section champs Duluth Marshall from last year will be back again after returning a majority of their starters.

Pautzke and the Mustangs aren't too concerned about the opponents they have coming up this year. "Our goals are simple - get better everyday - if we can get 1% better everyday we'll be a very good team by the end."

The Mustangs are supposed to open up the season on April 5th... weather permitting, of course.
