Dragons Pick Up Second Win of the Season on Homecoming

Coming off of a heart-breaking loss in Crosby the week before, the Dragons faced a district opponent in the Aitkin Gobblers. The Gobblers were ranked up to seventh in the state after their first three games of the season, but had since dropped out of the top ten after a loss to Moose Lake-Willow River. After the first drive of the game for each team, they looked as if they had returned to top ten form. The Gobblers led 8-0 and had forced a three and out on the other side of the ball. Things were looking grim for the Dragons, and it would take a while for the Dragons to turn it around.

After trailing 8-0 after one quarter of play, the Dragons would score twelve points in the second quarter, with touchdowns from Ausmus and West, to give Pine City a 12-8 lead heading into the half. Pine City would come out and score the first eight points of the second half as well on George Ausmus’s second score of the day. Aitkin cut the Dragon lead to four points late, but it was not enough as Pine City pulled out a 20-16 win over the Gobblers.

This Friday, the Dragons travel to Esko, MN, to face the Eskomos. This game will have an early kickoff at 5 PM as it is Esko’s homecoming. If you are unable to travel up to Esko to support the team, you can listen live on 106.5 FM and 1350 AM, or you can watch it live on wcmpradio.com.
