Pine City Dragon tennis ended another successful regular season on Friday with a win over Duluth Marshall.
From head coach Kristin Unverzagt:
The Dragon girls came ready to play as we traveled to Duluth Marshall yesterday. The team went home with a 6-1 win and played well and smart at each point.
Our singles players did a great job making the shots that they needed to play strong and play well at each point. The girls had strong groundstrokes and made the right shots at the right times. Ella Sell had the closest battle and stayed mentally tough to battle back from an 0-6 loss in the first set, came back 4-0 in the second set, and battled hard to win two tiebreakers to close the match!
Our doubles teams played well and were aggressive with their net play. The communication between our doubles teams also helped as Duluth Marshall had great lobs to keep our teams away from the net.
Duluth Marshall only has five courts, so when third double started to play, we had to shorten their match as the darkness moved in! Even though they lost in two tie breakers, they battled hard and played well at the net.
Overall, I am so proud of how the girls played and how well we wrapped up our last match of the regular season schedule.
We host Mora on Monday @ 3:30 for our first round play-off match. We also have six individuals competing at the sub-section tournament on Wednesday. It will be a fun and exciting week for the team!
