Mora played Brooklyn Center in the first round of the playoffs last night. Brooklyn Center came into the game with only thirteen eligible players.
Mora wasted no time getting on the board first, as Jayden Ponto scored from 5 yards out, giving the Mustangs an early 8-0 lead. Ponto scored again on a 15 yard rushing touchdown shortly after his first making it a 16-0 game. Nick Nelson got in on the scoring as he ran one in from 8 yards out, Mora would kick an extra point, making it a 23-0 lead. Ponto scored his third and final touchdown of the game on a 21 yard rush, Mora again kicked an extra point, giving them a 30-0 lead at the end of the first quarter. Both coaches for each team agreed to a running clock for the rest of the game. Nick Nelson extended the Mustangs lead to 37-0 on a 5 yard rushing touchdown, this would be the last points Mora would score. Mora played their JV squad for the rest of the game. Brooklyn Center scored on a 5 yard rushing touchdown from Lucas Bottonfield and then scored again with one second left. Mora won 37-14.
In a bizarre final play of the game Mora coach Troy Erickson elected to leave his defense off the field and allowed Brooklyn Center to end their season with a touchdown.
Mora advanced to the second round of the playoffs, where they will play Foley at home on Saturday. Kickoff set for 7pm.
