The Dragon boys basketball team hosted rival Braham last night.
Pine City is one of the last teams to play their first games of the season. The Dragons would strike first in the game and wouldn’t look back. Pine City built up a 17 point lead halfway through the first half. A good rotation of players, rebounding, and solid passing helped the Dragons build a 31 point lead heading into the halftime break. Coming out of the half, head coach Kyle Allen started a majority of his bench players. The Bombers went on a 7-0 run before coach Allen returned the starting 5 to the floor. The Bombers would again find a groove and outscore the Dragons 14-7 in the following minutes. The Dragons found a way to break through the Bombers defense, and would stop the Bombers late surge with great defensive play of their own. Pine City won 62-44 in their season opener.
Uncharacteristically, the Dragons struggled to hit the 3-point shots. Head coach Kyle Allen said he wasn’t worried about the 3 point shots falling because his team is able to find points closer to the net.
The Dragons will face their second conference opponent on Thursday. Pine City travels to East Central, who is 3-0, for the game at 7pm.
