47 Cats Surrendered to Human Society at Rest Stop near Harris

The Animal Human Society (AHS) recovered 47 cats Tuesday after a report about the animals was made to the Chisago County Sheriff's Office.

According to a press release, the 47 cats were released to AHS by their owner, who had been living with them in the vehicle for some time. Fourteen other cats from the vehicle were released to a local rescue organization prior to Tuesday. The owner of the cats was assessed on the scene by paramedics and provided with medical resources.

The AHS said the cats range in age from a year to 12 years. Despite Tuesday's extreme heat and the unsanitary conditions inside the vehicle, most of the cats seem to have only minor medical issues.

Once any medical and behavior issues have been addressed, AHS says the cats will be sterilized and made available for adoption.
