Allina Health to update timeline of paused Cambridge Medical Center project in spring

The Cambridge City Council heard an update on the postponed medical center project at Monday’s meeting.

Allina Health Senior Vice President Dave Slowinske said an updated timeline for the project will likely be communicated in late spring of 2024.

"We know that's not as satisfying of an answer as we would like to give either," Slowinske said. "But it's an answer we can give with more confidence than we could have made just a few months ago."

Slowinske said inflation and the organization’s financial footing were key factors for pressing pause on the new building in July.

Cambridge Medical Center president Josh Shepherd said the health system’s role in the community is something he takes seriously.

"We're not going anywhere," Shepherd said. "We're here to stay. We've been a member of this community for more than 50 years ... and our intent and our hope is to be here for fifty more years, if not longer."

The construction project for the facility was announced in January of 2022.

Allina Health first notified the public about delays in the effort in February of 2023.
