The Cambridge Police Department requested that a Deputy Police Chief position be created at the city’s May 3rd council meeting
The department has faced some administrative challenges where a second in command would benefit the organization as well as prepare for potential growth.
The position would be in charge of maintaining squad and body-worn cameras and conducting personnel complaint investigations while taking on everyday supervisory duties.
Concerns on pay and budget were raised, with Police Chief Schuster stating that the position will be filled by an existing officer and pay difference can be covered with temporary funds until the next year’s budget.
The position will go in effect on June 1st, with Sergeant Shawn Machin taking up the role
