The Dragons hockey team played in Princeton Thursday night in a very important section matchup.
The Tigers scored first in the opening period on a goal from Jack Southard. Princeton soon extended their lead to 2-0. But before the 1st period ended, George Miller scored on a power play with 9 seconds left. Alex Laven made a couple big point blank saves to keep the game close at 2-1. In the 2nd period the Dragons not only tied the game but took a one goal lead. Seth Linnell scored the game tying goal, and Parker Sell scored the go ahead goal. At that point, everyone wearing Pine City green thought that the tide was turning and the Dragons would run away with it from there. But later in the 2nd Princeton scored three unanswered goals to give themselves a 5-3 lead going into the 3rd. It was all Princeton from there. In the 3rd period the Dragons had a power play to give them a chance to get back in the game, but Southard scored a shorthanded goal for Princeton putting the game away. Southard ended the game with four goals for Princeton and the Dragons lost 7-3.
With the loss, the Dragons 12 game win streak was snapped and they drop to 13-3. Pine City will look to get back in the win column on Saturday. They will face the Bluejackets in Cambridge at 3pm.
