The East Central Eagles and Pine City Dragons battled it out in a conference matchup last night.
The Eagles came into this game looking to grab not only a win, but also a possible share of the conference title. The Eagles started the game with all the momentum, they scored first and built on that lead. They were forcing the Dragons to turn the ball over, stepping in passing lanes, and playing tight defense. But before long the Dragons stopped turning the ball over, found their rhythm on offense, and forced the Eagles into untimely turnovers. Pine City then quickly took over the lead and built on it. The Dragons took a 45-32 lead going into halftime. The Dragons began the 2nd half the way they finished the 1st, scoring at will. The Dragons quickly built up their lead and took full control of the game. The turnover bug was too much for the Eagles and the Dragons capitalized on that. East Central never gave up, they fought their way through the rest of the game. In the end, Pine City came away with the win 75-56. East Central was lead in scoring by Clay Nelson with 9, followed by Tim Roberts, Karamo Touray, Dezmon LeTexier, and Kai Petite who scored 8. Pine City was lead by Seth Logan who had 27 points followed by Koleman Lind with 15.
The Dragons are now 18-2 and remain undefeated in conference play. Pine City draws one step closer to grabbing the conference championship. The Dragons will host Duluth Marshall tonight. The Eagles fall to 13-7 and 8-2 in conference play, they will host McGregor on Monday night.
