The Pine City Dragons hockey team hosted Simley today on Parents day.
The Dragons came into this game winners of 5 straight. But Simley was looking to end that streak. Neither team was able to get the puck in the back of the net in the 1st period. Dusty Bergstrom finally broke the stalemate 3 seconds into the 2nd period. Shane Prifrel tied the game for Simley late in the 2nd. Simley took the lead early in the 3rd period on a power play. But the Dragons would not give up. Howie Hodena scored a short handed goal late in the 3rd to tie the game at 2 and send it to overtime. Both defenses were strong in overtime, neither team had a good scoring opportunity. Both teams were looking for a hero, and with 1.7 seconds left in overtime the Dragons found theirs in Dusty Bergstrom. The Dragons top the Spartans 3-2.
Pine City has now won 6 straight games. The Dragons will be back in action on Tuesday at North Shore. Puck drop for that game will drop at 6:30pm.
