Early and absentee voting is underway in the Mora school district's special election to fill a school board vacancy.
Matt Heggernes, Tina Akers, Marci Jenson, Kimberly Hodson, and Brett Parson are the five candidates vying for the position. The vacant term expires on Jan. 8, 2029.
In November’s general election, Janel Murphy was elected to one of three open school board seats.
However, she withdrew from the race when her name was still on the ballot, and declined to serve.
Heggernes, who has previously served on the board, was appointed to fill the vacancy in the interim.
Absentee ballots can be cast at the Mora High School district office from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, up through May 12.
The special election will be held on May 13.
