A fire at a Shafer multi-unit residential building resulted in the death of a female party in her sixties on Sunday night.
According to a news release from the Chisago County Sheriff's Office, law enforcement was notified about heavy smoke from a building on Redwing Avenue around 9:55 p.m.
Deputies and firefighters arrived to find smoke and flames coming from the six-unit complex, and immediately initiated rescue and evacuation procedures.
The release states that the deceased female party was located inside of her unit. Her identity has been withheld while her family is being notified.
The release adds that weather conditions at the time of the fire made the scene of the blaze more complex to manage.
Displaced individuals have been connected with the Red Cross.
The state fire marshal, Shafer Franconia Fire Department, and Chisago County Sheriff's Office Investigations Division are conducting a joint investigation to determine the cause of the fire.
