Foley Overcomes 10 Point Deficit to Defeat Pine City on the Road

The Foley boys basketball team made their way to Pine City Tuesday night.

Pine City began this game red hot, great passing to open up perimeter shots and drilling the threes. Luke Wilson was on fire from the first jump. Defense was also a big part of the first half, as they were able to prevent the Falcons from finding any open space on the court. The Dragons held a lead but couldn't seem to grow it as Foley continued to pound the paint and drew fouls. This put the Dragons in foul trouble early which came to haunt them late in the half. But before the end of the half Pine City was finally able to grow their lead and had it up to 10, in large part due to creating turnovers. It felt like they were going to be able to cruise to a large halftime lead. But Foley had other plans, and quickly turned the game on its head. Their defense stepped up and grabbed a bunch of rebounds and quickly transitioned to offense. The Falcons Derek Dahmen was a key contributor of their comeback, scoring 15 points in the first half. This turn around made it a 38-33 deficit at half.

Coming out of half Pine City looked like they were going to run away with the win. They were again able to climb out to a double digit lead, but that's when Foley had everything go their way. Some key changes on the fly and both sides of the team stepped up. The defense suffocated the Dragons and often times forced them into bad shots, which Foley rebounded. Their offense showed off great passing which seemingly left any shot they wanted open. They did a great job of not only sharing the ball but also creating second chance opportunities for their offense which lead to even more points. It felt bleak for Pine City as the 2nd half drained on. But the Dragons weren't going away easily. They were able to comeback and even tie the game. Time was not on their side though which forced them to foul and send Foley to the line. Foley converted nearly all of the free throws. But Pine City was still within a shot of the lead and with under 10 seconds to go they had one more chance. That would be short lived as the pass off a rebound went awry and gave Foley the win 65-63.

With the victory Foley now sits at 4-4 on the season and 2-4 in the section. They will host Zimmerman on Friday.
