Hannah Cornelius Hits Her 1,000 Career Point in Victory Over Hinckley-Finlayson

Braham girls basketball team hosted Hinckley-Finlayson last night.

The Jaguars started the game scoring first. After the Jaguars score it was a back and forth game, both teams trading the lead multiple times. Both teams were getting up the court quickly and wasted no time putting their shots up. It was a very evenly matched 1st half, but the Jaguars would go into the half with a one point lead 36-35. After halftime the game seemed to slow. Each team took their time to set up plays instead of shooting at will. The Bombers started to play a full court press which lead to 5 straight turnovers for the Jaguars. Braham’s defense was suffocating the Jags shooters and their offense fed off of that. Braham overtook the lead and never looked back. Late in the 2nd half with the game well in hand, Braham junior Hannah Cornelius was fouled. She would have a chance to hit her 1,000 career point at the free throw line. Not a single person was seated as they anxiously awaited the shot. Cornelius made the first free throw and hit her 1,000 point. After celebrating and taking pictures it was time to get back to business, as she still had one free throw left. She made the second and was done for the night, sitting at 1,001 career points. Her teammates finished off the game strong and came away with the victory 69-54. The Jaguars fought to the very end and had some bright spots. Hallie Rootkie lead the Jags in scoring with 23 points, she was unstoppable in the paint. Grace Balut scored 12, and Tatiana Olson finished with 9 and was certainly worthy of some recognition as she was certainly the hustle player for her team. The Bombers were lead by Hannah Cornelius who finished with 30, followed by Arin Zimpel who had 10.

The Bombers improve to 12-11 on the season as they notch their 9th conference win. They will host Barnum on Tuesday. The Jaguars fall to 4-19 on the season and will host St. Johns Prep tonight.

Congratulations Hannah Cornelius!
