The Mille Lacs County Sheriff's Office and Minnesota State Patrol are investigating a Highway 169 crash between an Onamia Public Schools bus and a semi on Wednesday morning.

According to the sheriff's office, the crash was reported around 7:15 a.m. just north of Shakopee Lake Road.

Two students who were on board the bus were checked out for minor injuries.

Superintendent JJ Vold said in a statement that the district’s Bus #15 was involved in the crash, which travels to Little Falls.

The sheriff's office states that the driver of the northbound semi left his lane and went into the oncoming lane of the southbound school bus.

The school bus driver, identified as Brian Lathrop, maneuvered to avoid a head-on collision.

The resulting impact was a glancing sideswipe near the rear passenger side of the bus.
