The Isanti County Sheriff’s Office is wishing happy trails and wagging tails to a K9 unit.
Raider, who has been with the department since 2017, is retiring after five years of service. He’s gone out on more than 200 calls in the area, and has been a fixture in the community, making regular Youth Day appearances at the Sportsmen’s Club.
Patrol Sergeant John Gillquist has worked with Raider since training with the K9 unit for 12 weeks in Blaine in 2017. But with a role change upcoming for Gillquist, he said the time was right for Raider to retire.
"He'll probably enjoy just being spoiled," Gillquist said. "He'll be inside a lot more, because obviously with the work that we do, he's always the first one to get muddy or wet or stinky."
