The city of Isanti has opened up candidate filing for a special election to fill the unexpired mayoral term.
Affidavits of candidacy will be accepted through 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 28.
The special election is scheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 12. A primary will be held on April 8 if necessary.
Former mayor Jimmy Gordon vacated the position after winning a seat in the state house of representatives in November’s general election.
Council member Luke Merrill has been appointed as temporary mayor in the interim.
The seat’s term goes from Sept. 2 through the end of 2026.
