The city of Isanti is planning to hold a special election in August of 2025 with the imminent resignation of mayor Jimmy Gordon at the end of December.
Gordon will step down from his position at the end of December after running as a Republican and defeating DFL candidate Tim Dummer for the District 28A state representative seat.
At Tuesday’s council meeting, Gordon expressed gratitude for serving the Isanti community.
The special election is tentatively scheduled for Aug. 12. If necessary, a primary would be held on April 8.
The city council vacancy is expected to be filled by temporary appointment by Dec. 17.
