The Isanti City Council will interview four candidates for a temporary appointment to the mayoral seat at Tuesday's meeting.
A special election is planned for August of 2025 with the imminent resignation of mayor Jimmy Gordon.
Gordon will step down from his position at the end of December after running as a Republican and defeating DFL candidate Tim Dummer for the District 28A state representative seat.
The special election is tentatively scheduled for Aug. 12. If necessary, a primary would be held on April 8.
The candidates for the temporary appointment are Luke Merrill, who currently serves as a council member; Jeff Johnson, who previously served as mayor of Isanti; Benjamin DeMaris, who is chair of the parks and recreation board; and Randy Polzin, retired Isanti Fire District chief and Isanti mayor for 12 years.
