Kanabec County Passes on Potential Conservation Land

The Kanabec County Board held discussion on the possible acquisition of land in Haybrook Township earlier this month.

Two parcels totaling approximately 81 acres were previously owned by Potlatch, a timberland real estate investment trust, and are now owned by The Conservation Fund. If purchased, the land would be restricted to conservation uses regardless of the type of funds the county would use for the purchase.

The board questioned if exploring options of purchase would really benefit the county in any way given its restrictive parameters, The land had already been offered and evaluated by the MN DNR which had not ranked it as a high priority for the department.

With the county already struggling to sell land that don't have building restrictions, The board voted not to seek an appraisal process for the land.
