The Kanabec County Board unanimously passed a resolution with Welia at their December 15th meeting. The matter was in regards to Welia wishing to transition to a private, non-profit organization.
Mary Foarde, a lawyer the county has contracted with for the process, gave her opinion on the agreed upon terms.
"I think that the negotiation committee did a great job of sticking to its guns on a number of points and that we have a really good transaction in front of us," told Foarde to the board at the meeting
County Board Member Dennis McNally took the lead in a lengthy discussion on certain items, including tax-exempt status and suspension of payment. No hard opposition occurred and the board and negotiation team took the considerations in mind. The resolution was passed with the discussed alterations.
