East Central hosted the Lady Dragons on Friday night.
The Eagles and Dragons took the court for a Great River Conference match Friday night. The Eagles were looking to grab a share of the conference title with a win over the Dragons. Both teams started the game with a blazing pace. It was a close game with the Eagles holding a slight lead over the Dragons, but soon the tables turned. Pine City started to force turnovers and capitalize on them on offense. Pine City built up a 10 point lead at half 29-19. Coming out of the half, the Dragons held all the momentum and quickly extended their lead to 17. East Central never backed down, as they fought hard to bring themselves back within 5. But the Eagles got into foul trouble late and Pine City built up their lead from the free throw line. East Central Senior Hope Loew, hit a long 3 point buzzer beater but it was too little too late. The Dragons got the win 63-56 and remain undefeated in conference play.
Pine City is 20-1 on the season and well on their way to a conference title. They will host the #3 team in the state, Proctor on Tuesday night. East Central falls to 15-6 and will travel up to Aitkin tonight.
