Ogilvie traveled to Pine City Thursday night.
The Dragons jumped out to an early lead but the Lions were hot on their tail. After starting with a lead the Dragons fell into some foul trouble which allowed Ogilvie's offense to get rolling. The Lions were able to bring their deficit down to 4, while their defense held Pine City to a scoring lull. It wasn't long before both teams hit that lull in large part due to the turnovers that plagued both sides. Pine City was able to fight their way out of the lack of scoring and ramped up the shots on offense. If they didn't get a shot to fall they did a great job of getting second chance opportunities and capitalized on those. This helped them extend their lead going into halftime 44-19.
Coming out of the half Pine City stayed hot and continued to roll on both sides of the court. Their defense managed to hold the Lions to only 9 second half points. As the half moved ahead the Dragons built a comfortable lead and were able to bring if some JV players of the bench for valuable varsity minutes. These players didn't let up as they were able to score 7 more points before the game had reached its final. Although the game was well out of reach some credit deserves to go to the Lions for never giving up, hanging their heads and continuing to fight on. Pine City came out on top 77-28.
The Dragons improved to 4-5 on the season and 2-1 in the Great River Conference. They will head up to Duluth Denfeld on Friday and come back home for a game on Monday.
The Lions drop to 2-6 and 1-3 in the conference. They will travel to Isle on Tuesday to play Mille Lacs.
