Milaca played Albany in the section semi final on Tuesday night.
The Wolves made the trip to Sauk Rapids-Rice High School Tuesday night for a conference showdown and a chance to play in the section championship.
The Huskies came into the game as the #2 team in all of Class AA and the #1 seed in the section, after finishing the season undefeated in section play. But as the game began there was very little separation in play. The Huskies got on the board first but the Wolves were quick to answer. That was the way much of the 1st set went, one team scored the other side came back and answered. Although the Huskies lead the entirety of the set, Milaca was never far behind, trailing by only as much as 3. The Wolves battled but came up short as Albany finished off the set 25-18.
Milaca started the 2nd set on fire, scoring first and jumping out to a 5-0 lead forcing the Huskies to call a timeout. The Wolves would go through most of the 2nd set with the lead, Albany would make it close but couldn't quite take the lead away. Eventually the Huskies did tie the set, and after went on a 6-0 run. Milaca would end the run but couldn't overcome the late deficit and lost the set 25-18.
The third set was close and neither team could swing momentum in their favor. Milaca knew they needed to keep this one close and try and finish it off late. But it was Albany who would go on a 10-0 run to break the tie and take over. This run proved to be enough as Albany controlled the rest of the set and winning 25-7.
For Milaca they played and battled much better than the 3-0 match loss will show. The season ended sooner than they would've like but it was certainly a great season!
