Milaca's Playoff Run Ends in the Section Championship

Milaca made their way to St. Cloud State to play Albany in the section 6AA championship game on Friday.

This would be the third meeting between the two squads, with a trip to the state tournament on the line.

The game couldn't have started any better if you're Milaca. They scored first and took an early lead and the offense seemed to get in rhythm quickly. But Albany's offense erased the early deficit and tied the game. Sadly, the Wolves hit a bit of a cold stretch that saw their lead slip away but also put them down by double digits. Milaca called a key timeout which proved to provide a spark into the team. They were able to cut into the Albany lead and bring themselves within 7. Although the Huskies extended their lead to 11 before half, it felt as if Milaca was gaining momentum.

The Wolves got off to a slow start to begin the 2nd half. And Albany capitalized, pulling away by nearly 20. Milaca never hung their heads and never gave in and fought back hard. With about 9 minutes left in the game the Wolves cut their deficit down to only a few possessions. They would need to be perfect on both sides if they wanted to complete the comeback. For the next couple of minutes the defense turned up the heat, creating turnovers and forcing Albany to turn the ball over. The Wolves scored off the turnovers and continued to cut into the lead. Unfortunately the Huskies were able to get back on track and pull ahead by nearly 20. With time against them the Wolves fought hard till the final buzzer, but Albany came out on top 74-57.

Milaca finishes the season 23-7 and as runners up in section 6AA.

Congratulations to the Wolves on a fantastic season, and good luck to the seniors!
