An inmate found unresponsive at the Mille Lacs County Jail on Aug. 23 died shortly after.
According to a press release from the Mille Lacs County Sheriff’s Office, 57-year-old Robert Sam was transported to the hospital after emergency personnel attempted to render aid.
He was pronounced dead shortly after.
Sam had turned himself into custody on an outstanding warrant two days prior.
The cause of death is pending the results of a toxicology report.
The Mille Lacs County sheriff’s office is investigating the circumstances and will release more information as it becomes available.
