The Mora boys basketball team hosted Hinckley-Finlayson Thursday night.
Both teams got off to a less than ideal start. Slower than each side would've liked and turnovers were a problem early on. Mora did hold a lead, but the Jaguars kept in close and were within 2 of the lead. They played a bit of a cat and mouse game with the lead, Mora would extend their lead to near double digits, then the Jags would close the game down to only a few points. That would all change under the halfway mark of the 1st half. Mora's offense quickly sparked and found a rhythm. With a 23-18 lead the Mustangs would go on an impressive 17-0 run and extend their lead to 20 points in only a matter of a couple minutes. Noah Oberfeld helped with 4 three's during that run, with plenty more rebounds. Josh Heggerness was just as good shooting the ball as he put up 13 points before the end of the 1st half. The defense was just as hot, forcing turnovers and play impeccable transition offense. The Jags were held to only 6 more points in the first half trailing at the break 40-22.
The success for Mora continued as the 2nd half began. This go round Cole Schwartzbauer would pile on the points, he added 12 to his total in a short time in the 2nd half. The Jags would eventually find their own success late in the game, but it was too little too late. The Mustangs ran away with the win 77-36.
Mora improves to 7-3 on the season, and will host Milaca Friday.
The Jags fall to 5-7, their next opportunity for a victory is also Friday night when they host Ogilvie.
