The Mora boys basketball team traveled to Pine City on Tuesday night.
As if this rivalry game didn't have enough riding on it already, this year Mora joined the Great River Conference. So now its a rivalry game, section game and a conference game! Both teams came in at 2-0 and only one could remain unbeaten.
It certainly lived up to the hype, there was plenty of action and some heated moments, nothing that would draw a foul. Both teams played with incredible pace and the scoring was seemingly non stop. But with all the scoring there were still some exciting defensive stops, blocks and turnovers. Pine City trailed for much of the first half but kept themselves within only a couple points of the Mora lead. Towards the end of the half Mora started to pull away, not by a lot but the momentum was definitely changing sides. The Dragons were able to get a few scores before half but trailed 42-30.
The 2nd half was alittle more one sided, as mentioned before you could sense momentum was shifting in Mora's favor. And the Mustangs used that and came out firing on all cylinders in the 2nd half. Everything the Mustangs did seemed to be executed with precision, every shot seemed to fall and the defense was locked in. But the Dragons were not going to back down from the challenge, they continued to play fast and physical and kept their heads up. The Mustangs outscored the Dragons in the 2nd half 35-18 and came out with the win 77-48.
For Pine City this game is another chance for them to learn, and when these teams meet again later in the season it will certainly be alot closer. The Dragons will play their fourth conference game in a row on Thursday in Rush City.
For Mora they remain unbeaten on the season, and have feel good with where their team is at early in the season, with the chance of only getting better. They'll host West Lutheran on Saturday to wrap up the week.
