The Mustangs traveled to St. John's University to the Sting on Saturday.
These two teams had faced off only but a week ago with Mora coming out on top. The Mustangs came in looking to continue their historic season, after finishing the regular season with the programs best ever record 25-1.
Early on the Sting simply were the better team, Mora struggled in seemingly all areas. The Sting did have two players standing over 6'4 which aided them in not allowing Mora to getting many, if any good drives to the basket. And when they tried to shoot from the perimeter the defense was just as tight, which lead to alot of misses. The offense had not been this off if you will all season. And to make matters worse, Spectrum simply couldn't miss no matter the shot they took. The Sting took a 21 point lead in the 1st half, and it didn't look good for Mora. But sometimes you have games where you're off and need to play through it, which they did. They were able to bounce back alittle and trailed by only 10 at the half, 44-34.
The Mustangs did not get out to the start they wanted in the 2nd half and the Sting started where they left off. Despite fighting through the tough night it seemed like no matter what Mora did, Spectrum had an answer. The Sting had built up a 23 point lead in the 2nd half and it seemed like all the energy Mora had was gone. But they weren't going to give up so easily, they stuck with it and went on a run of their own. After the run was stopped by a timeout they were only down by 5. Finally the breakthrough they needed, and they were only down two possessions. The Mustangs had new life and were eager to get back onto the court. But the poise and composure of the Sting was too much and they quickly were out to a double digit lead and would go on to win 84-73.
Not the ending the Mustangs had in mind, but they have to be proud of the fight they showed.
Congrats to Mora on a fantastic season!
