Multiple people are facing felony animal cruelty charges after Chisago County authorities broke up a cockfighting ring Thursday evening.
Deputies were called to the 1100 block of St. Croix Trail in the Sunrise Township following a report from a concerned citizen.
Upon arrival, deputies located the reported cockfight on the property and were working to ID all attending the event when 39-year-old Tou Yang fled the scene in the vehicle.
A vehicle pursuit ensued requiring law enforcement to use a PIT maneuver to take Yang into custody. Yang is currently facing felony charges for Flee Police in a Motor Vehicle and Animal Fighting/Possession of Fighting Animals.
Charges of Felony Animal Fighting/Possession of Fighting Animals will be reviewed by the Chisago County Attorney’s Office for several other individuals who remained on scene identified as 26-year-old Pa Thao of North branch MN, 40-year-old Ma Vang of St. Paul MN, 47-year-old Rick Lee of Brooklyn Center MN, 31-year-old Xab Lee of St. Paul MN, 33-year-old Alison Lee of St. Paul MN, 36-year-old Sieng Vang of Brooklyn Park MN, 31-year-old Tony Lor of St. Paul MN, 28-year-old Chua Vang of Fairview MO, and 32-year-old Sue Vang of Granby MO.
In a press release, the Chisago County Sheriff's Office said no injuries were sustained by any individuals or deputies who were involved in the incident, but a Chisago County squad did take minor damage during the pursuit.
The North Branch Police Department assisted in the investigation.
