Mustangs Shutout Dragons in Regular Season Finale

Mora hosted rival Pine City on Wednesday as they wrapped up the regular season.

The Dragons started with a three and out on offense and punted the ball away. It didn't take long for the Mustangs to punch it into the endzone on a 10 yard run from Nolan McGaw to put them up 8-0. Pine City couldn't do much when they got the ball back and punted it back to Mora. Once again Mora drove downfield and score on a 15 yard pass from Avery Nelson to Connor Gmahl which gave them a 16-0 lead going into the 2nd quarter. The 2nd quarter is where the Mustangs did the most damage. Not only did they force Pine City to turn the ball over twice but they also scored four more times before the half. Connor Gmahl scored his 2nd and 3rd of the game, Trenton Fore had a 50 yard punt return for a td, and Tucker Hass also added on. The six scores in the first half gave them a 45-0 lead heading into halftime. Though the Dragons offense struggled there were some flashes of good things. Their last two offensive drives looked promising. They were able to get the run game going in large part due to Logan Kolecki. On their last possession of the first half he touched the ball 5 plays in a row which brought the Dragons into Mora territory. Defensively again they showed flashes. They were able to get Mora into a few 2nd and 3rd and long situations but couldn't capitalize. Matt Blake had a big night tackling the ball carriers, leading the team in that category in the first half alone.

The 2nd half started with running clock in hopes of getting both teams out alittle quicker and without any injuries. Each team had the ball twice in the 2nd half, with Mora getting on the board one final time. Maverick Southerland scored what would wind up being the final score of the game in the third quarter. Mora came away with a 51-0 victory on the final regular season game to ever be played at historic Bergloff-Deis field.

Pine City finishes the season 1-7 and will play on the road throughout the playoffs.

Mora wraps up their season with a 5-3 record, winning 4 of their last 5 games scoring 40 or more points.
