The Pine City boys traveled to North Branch on Monday night.
Both teams came into this game hungry for a win, after having suffered a tough set back last week.
Both teams like to push the pace of the game, and the teams were able to match the other's energy. It was a good start for both teams, they were able to execute their respective gameplans at a high level. It was a close game all throughout the 1st half, neither team was able to take more than a 3 point lead. Even when a team did grab a lead the other was quick to answer and cut the deficit to one or even tie the game. Pine City took advantage of some of the Vikings mistakes and turnovers and took a 5 point lead late. It seemed they had swung momentum in their favor, but North Branch was quickly able to turn things around and keep it close. The Dragons would still lead at half 34-30.
As the 2nd half began Pine City quickly took over, their offense was moving swiftly and it seemed like North Branch had no answer for it. Once the Vikings finally slowed things down they were facing a double digit deficit. Unfortunately, their offense was unable to find as many open looks to shoot the ball. And were really given no opportunity at second chance scoring opportunities, because Pine City was boxing out so well. The Dragons had rebounded what seemed like every ball that was up for grabs. The Vikings were able to keep themselves within 20 of the lead, but it seemed like fatigue set in late. Pine City was able to get the victory 68-51.
For Pine City its their 8th win of the season. They'll travel to Mora on Thursday night for a rivalry rematch.
North Branch suffers their 17th loss of the season. But will have a chance at a quick turnaround as they host Zimmerman Tuesday night.
