Preston Prokasky Pleads Guilty to Criminal Vehicular Homicide

The Willow River man charged in the September drowning death of Eugene Oestrich has pled guilty to criminal vehicular homicide.

43-year-old Preston Paul Prokasky told law enforcement that he intentionally drove his vehicle into the Kettle River in an attempt to cross it while under the influence of methamphetamine.

Prokasky pled guilty on Friday, January 24, 2020. The statutory maximum for criminal vehicular homicide is 10 years; however, Pine County Attorney Reese Frederickson expects Prokasky to be sentenced to 41 months in prison - the guideline sentence that the legislature has set for someone due to no prior felony history and is convicted of this crime.

A sentencing hearing for Prokasky is set for April 7, 2020.
