Mora City Council member Kyle Shepard is resigning from his position effective Feb. 27.
Shepard's resignation is due to an upcoming move out of the city.
"I thought the house-hunting process was going to take years," Shepard said. "It did not. I was just as shocked as everyone else is."
Shepard was re-elected to his council seat in November of 2024. He was first voted onto the Mora City Council in the 2020 general election.
"Serving on the city council has been both an honor and a privilege," mayor Jake Mathison read from Shepard's resignation letter, "And I'm grateful for the opportunity to work alongside dedicated individuals who are dedicated to the betterment of our community."
The council voted to appoint Sam Pioske to fill the vacancy until an election is held to finish Shepard's unexpired term on Nov. 10, 2026.
"To call a special election now would be too costly to the taxpayers," Mathison said.
Pioske finished fourth in November's election, with just 17 fewer votes than Shepard.
