Two victims are in critical condition after being shot Sunday just northwest of Foley.
According to the Benton County Sheriff’s Office, authorities responded to a residence in the 9900 block of 95th Avenue Northeast in Gilmanton Township around 4:45 p.m.
A resident had reported that two people had been shot, and that the suspect remained in the area.
Two adult male victims were located. One had a gunshot wound to his neck, and the other had been shot in the abdomen. Both men were transported to St. Cloud Hospital.
Deputies were able to locate the adult male suspect and take him into custody without incident.
According to a news release, the victims were identified as 32-year-old Gaudencio Martinez and 35-year-old Martin Ramirez Marcial, both of Foley.
The suspect was identified as 22-year-old Foley man Ismael Vasquez Santos.
According to the release, the investigation revealed Santos shot Martinez and Marcial with a handgun following an argument. Investigators learned that prior to the shooting, Marcial had invited Martinez to Marcial’s residence in the 9300 block of 95th Avenue Northeast that Marcial shared with Santos.
The release states that investigators discovered that Santos became belligerent with Martinez and Marcial after consuming alcoholic beverages, threatening to kill them. Santos reportedly produced a handgun and shot Marcial in the neck and Martinez in the abdomen.
Marcial allegedly ran from the scene of the shooting and sought help from a resident in the 9900 block of 95th Avenue Northeast. Investigators say Marcial and Martinez both stated Santos’ assault was a surprise to them, commenting that Santos “went crazy.”
The investigation is ongoing, and the Benton County Sheriff’s Office reports there is no further danger to the public.
