Vikings Season Finishes at State Tournament

North Branch's softball team played in the consolation round of the state tournament on Thursday against Simley.

The Vikings were hoping to keep their state tournament run alive. A win would put them in the consolation championship game at 7pm.

The game got off to a hot start for North Branch, as they were able to cross three runs across the plate taking a 3-0 lead early. They were able to hold Simley to one run in the 1st, and the Vikings seemed to have all momentum. But the next two innings saw the Spartans take over. They not only tied the game but in the 3rd inning scored three more runs to take a 6-3 lead. During this time the Vikings only managed one hit. But North Branch quickly turned it around in the 4th and Victoria Thurmer lauched a solo home run over the left field wall! Simley would add a run in the 4th as well to keep the game at a three run difference 7-4. The Vikings grabbed a hit in each of the next two innings but couldn't get on the board with runners in scoring position. Into the 7th inning North Branch needed 3 runs to keep their state run alive. Two of their first three batters reached and with one out Morgan Mann smacked an RBI single to bring her team within two. Sadly for North Branch the next two batters were unable to reach base and were the final two outs, ending the game 7-5.

Though the season has come to an end it was an incredible run by the Vikings. From being underdogs in the section playoffs, to beating the top 3 seeds on their way to a section championship and a state tournament appearance.

Congratulations to North Branch on their great season!
