Chisago Lakes volleyball hosted Becker on Tuesday night in a Mississippi 8 Conference battle.
The Wildcats got off to a good start in the opening set, leading for the majority of it. Becker was able to take a lead late but Chisago quickly retook the lead for themselves. But the Bulldogs were able to make a late comeback and win the set 25-23. In the second set it was Becker who controlled much of the set, especially early on. The Wildcats struggled to find a rhythm early. They were able to use a timeout and a couple momentum swings to get themselves back into the game. Chisago was able to make a comeback themselves and win the second set 25-21.
The third set it seemed neither team could take advantage of big hits or mistakes from the other. It was a back and forth set, when one team scored and took a lead the other was quick to answer and tie and take a lead for themselves. But again late in the set Becker was able to pull away and win the set 25-21.
Becker had seemed to find a groove and looked to have pull all momentum in their favor. As set four began the Wildcats were quick to shift momentum in their favor. They took full advantage of the Bulldogs mistakes, and made some big plays themselves. The Wildcats finished off the set strong winning a lopsided set 25-13.
It all came down to a fifth and final set. Chisago looked to bring all their momentum from the last set victory and try and run away in the fifth. This was another set that proved to be one where both teams traded the lead and couldn't pull away. Becker had taken a lead late in the set, which forced the Wildcats to call a timeout and regroup. Unfortunately for Chisago, the Bulldogs had found a way to finish off the set 15-11 winning the match 3-2.
For the Wildcats it was a tough loss, but they must stay encouraged from their resilience and they'll continue to improve. They'll have another conference game on Thursday in North Branch, who is a top 10 team in Class AAA.
