Wildcats Fall to Centennial

The Chisago Lakes boys basketball team hosted Centennial on Monday.

In a Christmas break game the Wildcats had a chance to pick up their second win on the season.

Both teams had set a break neck pace early on in the game, and somehow kept it going throughout the entire first half. The Wildcats got on the board first but Centennial was quick to come back and go on a run to take the lead. The teams were back and forth on the scoreboard early on, but the Wildcats momentum was soon halted. Turnovers played a factor in the slow of their production, whether it was giving the ball back to Centennial or not scoring on takeaways. But one positive was they had forced the Cougars into foul trouble early. They were in the bonus well before the 9 minutes mark of the 1st half, and in the double bonus shortly after. Despite having nearly 9 minutes of being in the double bonus, Chisago struggled to capitalize at the free throw line, shooting well under 50%. With this Centennial was able to keep their lead and even grow it. But any time the Cougars played that aggressive style, they were quickly whistled for the foul. Late in the half Chisago was able to finally get more free throw attempts to fall than not. But the damage had been done and they went into half trailing 47-32.

Unfortunately, the Wildcats turnover struggles spilled over into the 2nd half, early on. Was again Centennial wasted no time taking advantage of said turnovers and were soon out to a 20+ point lead. Chisago was not going to let up however, and continued to battle back. Eventually, the Cougars had built up a 30+ point lead, but once again the Wildcats showed their resiliency fighting back and playing as a team till the final buzzer. The Wildcats lost 99-66.

Chisago will play again on Friday at home against Mounds View for another shot at their 2nd win.
